We live in a world where creativity thrives and is a foundation to revolutionary discoveries and inventions. The Act of Creation (Arthur Koestler, 1964) mentions creativity being a learning process with an analogy where your subconscious is a teacher and you are a student. What I understood from this is that our thoughts and the awareness of our thoughts, teach us how to express ourselves and therefore is what you call each of our own forms of creativity. This fascinating notion leads us to ponder over the multiple ways of expressing our thoughts and creation. You can express yourself through conversation (Margaret Shepherd, 2007) as you create different moods with tone, and through actions such as behavior or routine. I personally express my creativity through art which is why my favorite design created is the classic pen and paper.

For me, pencils and drawing utensils in general are my go to design tool because being a practical person, drawings are my form of expression. You can not only create visual images with pencil, but you can write stories, create symbols, and therefore express your thoughts and feelings on paper, and they're all personalized because you manually created that piece of work. I've created many things with a 2H Staedtler pencil alone - I've drafted architecture, sketched faces, drafted unnecessary school essays, and told stories and fostered emotions from my creations. Well I've also created other things with a pencil such as marks on my back from using a pencil as a back scratcher, drumming music and a substitute spinner for twister - be warned, it ALWAYS lands on the trickiest colors man. But that's not the practical use we're talking about now are we? Pencils are a tool to create art. Our own visualization through our eyes and having that personal outlet to express yourself is so important because it can help you truly get to know yourself and unleash your own natural nature of creativity in its rawest form. (Rosemary Gordon, 1981).
And that's precisely why the pencil is such an evolutionary tool because it allowed the creative process to broaden and therefore created new pathways for creativity and in society (Jonathan Schifman, 2016.)
Nowadays you have upgraded pencils known as stylus pens which are multi-functional pen-shaped utensils you use on touchscreen devices and although modernized, you see the obvious relation to the use of a pencil. This shows how although the design society has evolved, the fundamentals of designing remain the same and that is something to remember - how originality begins.
